CONSTRUCTION DOCUMENTs

At this stage of the architectural design process, the focus shifts from design to communicating the design and providing all information necessary for construction. 

Construction Documentation is the phase where the design is translated into the technical language of the contractor.  Working Drawings (blueprints) and specifications are prepared which define all of the materials that are to be incorporated into the building, where they are to be located and how they are to be installed.  Although this phase is primarily intended for working out the technical aspects of the project, some design work also takes place.  In addition, light fixtures, and finish materials (tile, carpet, paint colours, etc.) are selected.

It is important that the client request any changes to the project during earlier stages, as any change requests made while the construction drawings are being created will result in delays and significant extra costs as well.
